and

excuses

It is what it is

I know I will finish

I hope I PR

I still like to run

I feel great after I have run

I just am not making it a priority

Enjoy the Journey

I am back up and running.
Discharged from physical therapy yesterday!
Running pain free.
Today my body was tired.
Heavy tired.
The sun was GORGEOUS.
The wind not bad.
I loaded the kids and their bikes
so I could get my 4 miles.
I took it very easy.
15 minute mile easy
I wanted to Enjoy the Journey.
Feel the sun on my face.
Hear the birds
The trail ends and we end up in a neighborhood
in Stoneridge (golf community)
There were two little Kenyan children.
Standing so still I thought they were statues.
The girl, about 4, spoke to me.
I didn’t respond because I wasn’t sure
what she said.
Louder…
“DO YOU KNOW JESUS!?"
“Well Yes I do! Do You?”
“YES!!”
“AWESOME” I said.
Melt my heart!
On the way back my kids had gone on ahead.
This time the girl asked if they were my kids
I said “Yep.”
“Why they not in school?”
“I am their teacher” I said…”they do school at home”
“Oh”
That was sufficient apparently.
I really did more fast walking than even jogging today
Enjoying the journey.
Enjoying my kids.
Enjoying being asked if
I know Jesus!
We even stopped for a little picnic.
I blogged over at my homeschool blog
about throwing rocks and nature sketching.
Remember to
Enjoy the journey
Don’t get so caught up
in paces and distance
that running becomes a chore.
At least that is what I did for today.
Tomorrow may be a completely different
story.

2.20.2011

just have to tell you….

Hubs INSISTED on letting me

buy the

Garmin 305!

Sqqqqeeeeeeeeeeeeeel!

And someday the snow will be

gone

and my injuries will be

healed

and

I WILL RUN AGAIN!!

Love My Brooks!

Waaay back in April I blogged HERE about how I really liked my Nike Pegasus.

I bought them because my girlfriend wore them.

She also has knee issues so I thought I try them.

I liked them at first.

So much so I started wearing them all the time.

Then it started.  It being achilles tendonitis in my right ankle.

It was a slow start.

Getting out of bed and not being able to move

my ankle…then the icing at night.

120071_320_o_LG

So I e-mailed Brooks

and asked if I could review

a pair of their shoes.

Well lo and behold I got a YES.

This was a few months ago.

My tendonitis is so much better.

I am actually in physical therapy now too….

but it was better before I started.

I need to get another pair to run in.

My knees and ankle don’t ache

at the end of the day

like they did in my Nike’s

So on a scale of 1-10

I give my Brooks Ghost 3’s an 8

only because in the real world

I don’t know if I could afford them.

But entirely WORTH every penny!

1.11.2011

who am I?

I am a mom to 4
ages 11 1/2 to 20
no I am not old enough to
have a 20yr old
I started running 1 yr ago
weighing in at
163 lbs
I have since lost
15 lbs and 22 inches overall
Why did I start?
The Principal had suggested
we run Bloomsday
sure I said
lets do it
My first 5K on the treadmill
was 58 minutes
I felt like I had won a marathon!
I continued to train for that 12K
and decided to try a 5K
Race for the Cure
in honor of
I then did Bloomsday
and a few more 5K’s
Every time I got out there
I did it for Jamie thinking
she would probably
really LOVE to be running
Jamie lost her battle
October 4th, 2010
My goal is to always run
Race for a Cure
Spokane
and
Coeur d’ Alene
This August I am walking the
3 Day for a Cure
in
Minneapolis
with my cousin Jill (Jamie’s sister)
I am injured right now
and doing PT
for ITBS, Patellar tendinitis and achilles tendinitis
I will run again!
For Jamie.

12.31.2010

the numbers don’t lie

I started using Dailymile
almost from my very first run
so
Here are my stats (I ran an extra mile tonight)
319.65 320.65 miles completed
14lbs burned (scale says 15)
169 170 total workouts
277.75 278.57 doughnuts burned
90 hours of training
Not too bad for my 1st year of running
Can’t wait for what next year will bring!

10.09.2010

The reason I run

I had signed up for Bloomsday

Part of my ‘training’ was

Spokane’s

Race for the Cure

in

Honor of

my cousin Jamie

my 2nd Race for the Cure

was 2 weeks ago

my next one will be

in memory of

Love you Jamie!

4/6/1971-10/3/10

I will not stop

Racing for a Cure!

9.30.2010

tweet up anyone?

Anybody going to be at the

Spokane Marathon

1/2 Marathon

or

10K

on

10/10/10

I am running the 10K

hoping that my friend

who is running the 1/2

doesn’t pass me

8.18.2010

Amazing….

I had my yearly appt. today

Doc was happy with my weight loss.

January 1, 2010

I was 165

today

152

It’s just a number

I didn’t keep track of inches

darn it!

I am also weaning off of my

“happy pills”

Which is good too.

Amazing how running

clears my head,

lightens my heart,

and refreshes my mood.

It helps me re-focus

or not focus on anything.

7.15.2010

1st running injury

I apparently don’t

do enough stretching

I think I have

Achilles Tendinosis

Last night

getting out of my chair

I couldn’t bend my foot

to walk

So I googled my

symptoms today and

it comes up with

Achilles Tendinosis

lovely!

6.28.2010

still at it

So I am still running

Went to watch the

Coeur d Alene Ironman

pretty inspiring

Would like to try a

Triathlon

but who knows

I am staying on track

for the Sandpoint Scenic Half

up to 4 miles….

I am still a wogger though

you know

Walker/Jogger

my pace varies

12-15 min. mile

I would be happy to be closer to 12

but

in January I was happy

just to be able to move

forward…..and faster

than a 20 minute mile

What are you up to for the summer race wise?

leave me a comment with

your plans….

6.15.2010

where is your wall

at what point do you hit your wall

what exactly is ‘a wall’

To me

my wall

is when I get to that

why am I here?

how much longer?

do I have to keep going?

Every run at about the 2nd mile

I wonder why the heck

I am out there.

I don’t really like running.

I do,however, love the feeling

AFTER

the run.

I can’t recall a time

that I felt worse

AFTER

a run.

Running is always worth it.

6.10.2010

still running

I am still here.
I am still running.

I took about 10 days off
while on vacation.
Ran Tuesday for 1 mile
thought
I.would.die
Back in January
I could hardly
WALK
a mile

I am now
unofficially
15 weeks away
from
Sandpoint Scenic Half

So
I CAN DO IT!
or
die trying

5.03.2010

Bloomsday 2010

So we survived Bloomsday
I wasn't sure what the hype was about
and since this was only
my 2nd race ever
I didn't have much to compare it to
Doomsday Hill was not that bad
the hills before it
SUCKED

There were a TON
of walkers
who I thought were
supposed to be in RED
as walkers
so we had to do a LOT of
dodging of people
like off the road
on the sidewalk
or whatever trail was there
dodging
We (DH ran with me)
got to
MILE 1
in record time
I thought
Oh this will be easy!
UH NOT!
Mile 2 and still dodging
Frustrating
and
energy sucking
I then had to pee
seriously I had to by
Mile 1
but really had to
at 2
(so did hubs)
and the lines were long
at least 8 minutes
SHOT!
Then there was a hill
finally water about 2.5
or felt like it
might have been sooner
another hill
then we finally get a groove
and are doing well
feeling great
another hill
more water
Mile 5!
don't remember if that
was after
Doomsday Hill
or before
Mile 6-7 totally walked
there were
so.many.people
half mile to go
walk another 1/4 mile
then I hear some guy say
only a 1/4 mile to go!
We.can.do.this!!!

We did manage to run across the finish line
it helped that the last 100+ yards was
DOWNHILL!

Overall it was a good time
liked that hubs went
learned:
~drink more water
the night before
not the morning of
~not to eat tacos
the night before
and
~to lie about how long it
will take to finish so
I can actually be
 with fellow runners
and not with the walkers

4.23.2010

getting on track

no pun intended
actually it is track and field season
so running on the highschool
track isn't possible

I have been forcing myself
to run outside
it is harder
I actually miss my treadmill
well cause it is nicer to me
then the pavement
I ache the next day
from the pavement

BUT
I enjoy the fresh air
so
I will persevere
and stay
outside

Next up
a
12K

4.19.2010

my 1st 5K

this was my first race
I had no idea what to expect
It was really a family event
so if all races have this
many kids in them
my running career is
OVER

Started out well enough
the walkers were way back behind us
chipped runners went first
The rest of us finally get moving
and I went to the side to get away from the people
that was something new too
running with others
My goal for this race wasn't so much to finish
hello, just a
5K!
It was to NOT WALK
I did this to honor my cousin Jamie

The water stations slowed me down
there weren't enough
people handing out water
which I NEEDED (the water)
I used that as an excuse to slow down
but not walk

I passed mile 1
this is where, in my head,
I need to walk
it's a wall for me
I didn't walk

I got passed
a lot
but by a walker
with legs as long
as I am tall
whatever
I was slow and study

there was a small hill
and thought
CRAP
I didn't walk

what goes up must come down
I was most excited
to have a down hill
when we looped around

My NIKE+ says
2K to go

Still moving
slow but not walking

kids are everywhere and
in.the.way!
and jogging strollers
not sure they should be allowed
just sayin'

So my NIKE+ says 5K
and the finish line isn't in site
WTH!
okay
 I want to WALK
my thighs feel like jello
and I see
my love
He walked so he could see me
on the course
I LOVE HIM!
it was just enough for me to
keep going
Then my son
yells
GO MOM!

Mind you this was
'just' a 5K
not a marathon
or even
a half

but
 I
DID
NOT
WALK!

3 months ago I
could barely walk 5K

so to me this was
a HUGE
thing.

here are some pictures
that my son took

only pink shirt I had....wish somebody had told me it was too small!
I am down 10 lbs since starting in January
thought it would come off faster....whatever

real men wear pink!
survior balloon release

crossed the finish line!

4.15.2010

I ran again

I finally ran again.
It had been almost a week
unless you count that
horrid mile on Saturday
which I don't

So
today I am going to run
while the kids are all at soccer
this will be interesting because
it will be outside
I haven't done much of that

I feel better already.
Oh
I am reading the
50/50/50
50 Marathons
50 days
50 states
by Dean something
great read
inspirational
I won't be doing it mind you
but still a good read
