the DX
So it isn’t the end of the world
the doc said I have
Tight IT Band
and
Achilles Tendonitis
I start my
6-8 weeks of PT
on January 3rd
35 minutes away
because you know
I have that kind of time
and money for gas
Part of me says
screw it
I don’t need to do PT
I don’t need to run
it costs money
for races
for clothes
for the gear
but I
LIKE RUNNING!
I have
GOALS!
I want to finish
a half marathon
and
a Sprint Tri
and yes my
HUGE GOAL
Coeur d Alene Ironman 2015
The year I turn 45
so bring on the PT
Let’s do this!
12.19.2010
seeing the doc
I have an appointment Tuesday
with an orthopedic doc
I had knee surgery 15yrs ago
so decided I didn’t want to even mess with
my family doc
who doesn’t run
I will have the doc look at
my R achilles
and L knee
I want to run
I want to
run a half marathon
and someday
do a tri
and within 5 years
an
Ironman!
I can’t do any of it
if my body won’t cooperate
so
off to the doc I go
Will update when I find out more

Ponderings
I am sitting here wondering, pondering.
Why?
Why in January of this year
did I finally start
this journey.
And why
is everyday a struggle
to get it done?
My first 5K on the treadmill took
almost an hour!
It was still 3.1 miles!
I had never walked or jogged
that far in my life.
The Saturday before Thanksgiving
I did it in 38 something!
My body is smaller
than it was in January.
I have lost weight and inches.
I feel great!
So why everyday do I
HATE IT?
Running on the treadmill is fine
it is the ice and ibuprofen
I hate.
It is the creaking and stiffness
getting out of the chair.
I am not so old that
I should be creaking.
Am I?
If you have the answers please share!
Off to ponder more…maybe even Shred
11.24.2010
Boo Ya! I PR’d
I ran a Turkey Trot Saturday.
I woke up feeling great.
Had a cup of coffee before leaving the house
then refilled for the 40 minute drive to CdA.
I was well rested.
I have been doing the 30 Day Shred
and I fully believe it helped me.
I am (feeling) stronger all over, not just my legs.
I tried to suck down an energy gel
GAG
I will stick with cheweys
It was a brisk 25ish and a little breezy
I was okay with that. I chose not to wear
my light jacket
instead I had on a tech shirt under
my Race for the Cure
long sleeved –ahem- cotton t-shirt
I also wore running pants
with shorts OVER them
so nobody had to look at my
big ‘ol butt in tights
I was set!
They let us go in waves…
I was in the last wave of 5K’rs
and since I am a 12 min mile
I thought for sure I would be last
I wasn’t
I was at about the 3.5K when I did the math
and figured out I would be getting a PR.
Not by a few seconds, but a full
2 MINUTES! (2:19 actually)
I felt like I had WON the race
Such a great feeling to PR!!
I compare it to my first race finish
While there won’t be another
first ever race
I do get to PR again.

30 Day Shred
So on twitter the other day I kept seeing
Hmm
I ask what is a #Shredhead
Oh it’s those of us that follow
Jillian Michaels and her
30 day shred
Oh cool
I tried that once from Netflix.
It went back the next day
So today
was my 2nd day on level 1
and it counted as homeschool PE
because the kids joined in.
I have to say it is much easier…if her workouts
are easy…than when I tried back in January…
Probably the RUNNING"!
I will be taking pictures along the way….
Won’t be posting them though…well maybe
11.01.2010
Pumpkin 5K with my daughter
I was excited to have a running partner.
Saturday E and I got up and got ready.
We had laid out our running gear the night
before so we wouldn’t
be rushed.
I forgot she is 13.
Uh…just put a hat on and let’s go!
We got to the race with plenty of time
to spare…ie potty breaks and costume observing.
She is a black and white type person so when
the race started 10 minutes late she
was annoyed.
Mind you this was a
FUN RUN and it was FREE
The race finally starts
and
she takes off!
I wave her on…so much for bonding.
She is about an inch taller
than I am
and legs as long as I am tall…
well okay
but her stride is definitely longer than mine.
She ended up with foot pain and walked a good deal.
And still beat me.
My energy and lungs were
saying
LET’S GO
my knee was saying
Uh nope sorry!
Whatever.
I still finished around the same
time as I have
every.other.5K
Someday I will beat 40 minutes
Until then
I will be in my daughters dust
which is fine
Because lunch afterwards was bonding too
10.24.2010
still here
Last week I upped my
per run mileage
and
did some Yoga
apparently my 40 year old
body decided it was too much
and rebelled
so I haven’t run in a week
I hate that
I hate when I get motivated and serious
my body gives out
not like my mind is playing games
maybe I am a wimp
at the same time
I can’t get hurt
and be laid up with an injury
I will get at it again this week
probably the dreadmill
but at least it’s moving
10.11.2010
10K recap
So this was my first 10K
Longest run since
Bloomsday 12K
Wasn’t impressed with
the lack of organization
Maybe I am spoiled
with Bloomsday
and Race for the Cure’s
My biggest ‘issue’
no porta potties
seriously
I am the ONLY
runner
that can’t finish
6 miles without needing one?
Whatever.
The start and finish lines
were not marked.
To get our shirts we had to go to a bar
that doesn’t bother me
I met my husband in a bar
but you can’t stuff
however many runners
that are
sweaty
and
stinky
into a small place!
G.R.O.S.S!
Anyway
I was shooting for 90 min
my time was
1:30:31
I count is as a success.
10.09.2010
The reason I run
I had signed up for Bloomsday
Part of my ‘training’ was
Spokane’s
Race for the Cure
in
Honor of
my 2nd Race for the Cure
was 2 weeks ago
my next one will be
in memory of
Love you Jamie!
4/6/1971-10/3/10
I will not stop
Racing for a Cure!
10.08.2010
the ‘DREAM’
It’s official
I had
the DREAM
you know the one
where you are late for the race
then getting lost
I was running the
10K that is scheduled
Sunday
I am at an amazing 6min mile
(now I KNOW this is a dream)
then the 1/2 marathoners are let loose
and I get off course
then I stop to talk to
my friends
Donna and Sarah
who completed the 1/2 before
my 10K
Then I woke up!
10.02.2010
5K Day
no pictures
no cheers from the crowd
no actual race
just me and my lil ‘ol self
I ended up doing 4 miles
2 miles in town
got too stinking hot
and
drove 15 minutes to home
I decided I felt better and ran 2 more
I sure hope it isn’t 73 out
next Sunday for the
10K
In January I couldn’t
WALK
4 miles much less
wog it
Okay jog a bit, walk a bit
I have completed BOTH
Race for the Cure’s
without walking
Something special about them
I am motivated.
9.30.2010
tweet up anyone?
Anybody going to be at the
Spokane Marathon
1/2 Marathon
or
10K
on
10/10/10
I am running the 10K
hoping that my friend
who is running the 1/2
doesn’t pass me
9.27.2010
race results
Here I am at about .25 mile into the race
Here I am at the end…
I didn’t walk
and I hadn’t run in close to a month
so overall I am
happy with this run
I signed up for a
10K
on
10/10/10
in Spokane
with the exception of
Bloomsday, a 12K
this will be my longest yet.
9.25.2010
Race for the Cure
I am going to run another
Race for the Cure
tomorrow
for Jamie
Praying it is
In Honor Of
and not
In Memory Of
I haven’t run in 3 weeks
but that really doesn’t matter
I will, as long as I am able, always run
Race for the Cure.
I will someday complete
A half Marathon for the Cure
and
Marathon for the Cure
WE NEED TO BEAT BREAST CANCER!
8.18.2010
Amazing….
I had my yearly appt. today
Doc was happy with my weight loss.
January 1, 2010
I was 165
today
152
It’s just a number
I didn’t keep track of inches
darn it!
I am also weaning off of my
“happy pills”
Which is good too.
Amazing how running
clears my head,
lightens my heart,
and refreshes my mood.
It helps me re-focus
or not focus on anything.
8.11.2010
Getting my groove back
8.05.2010
Well…..
I am running again.
Foot is only about 90%
I say that because yesterday
when I was about a mile into my run
I felt a sharp pain.
Dull ache I run through
Sharp pain I stop
I was able to run 2 more miles
in the evening and was okay
Taking today off
Feels so good to be back at it.
I missed it
Yes, I run on purpose.
7.20.2010
things I learned
The Sage Memorial 5K was so far my worst race ever!
Worst in terms of how I was feeling etc.
BEST in terms of fun though!
- Don’t drink coffee (ie Mocha) 20 minutes before race
- Go to the bathroom…even if you don’t think you need to
- Drink water the morning of
- Drink water the night before
- AF came to town and I don’t normally run when AF is here
- Every race can’t be a PR
- I can only go up/get better from here
Sunday afternoon I stepped on a nail….
Had to make a trip to the ER for a tetanus shot
I still can’t walk normal on it
I hope I make it to the Timber Days 5 miler.
At least I have to let it heal so
hopefully my achilles will heal also
ice. elevation. ibuprofen
repeat
7.15.2010
1st running injury
I apparently don’t
do enough stretching
I think I have
Last night
getting out of my chair
I couldn’t bend my foot
to walk
So I googled my
symptoms today and
it comes up with
lovely!
7.13.2010
race this weekend
I laugh at myself’
If it is called a
FUN RUN
I am offended that a 5K is FUN
if it is a race
I will never be 1st
or even 1st female
maybe in my age division
someday.
I am getting faster
and I really
enjoy outside
not the treadmill.
My pace out side is 11-12
treadmill is 15-16
No clue why.
Shooting for a PR for Saturday
Will be very happy with under 40.
6.28.2010
still at it
So I am still running
Went to watch the
Coeur d Alene Ironman
pretty inspiring
Would like to try a
Triathlon
but who knows
I am staying on track
for the Sandpoint Scenic Half
up to 4 miles….
I am still a wogger though
you know
Walker/Jogger
my pace varies
12-15 min. mile
I would be happy to be closer to 12
but
in January I was happy
just to be able to move
forward…..and faster
than a 20 minute mile
What are you up to for the summer race wise?
leave me a comment with
your plans….
6.15.2010
where is your wall
at what point do you hit your wall
what exactly is ‘a wall’
To me
my wall
is when I get to that
why am I here?
how much longer?
do I have to keep going?
Every run at about the 2nd mile
I wonder why the heck
I am out there.
I don’t really like running.
I do,however, love the feeling
AFTER
the run.
I can’t recall a time
that I felt worse
AFTER
a run.
Running is always worth it.
6.12.2010
wow really?
So I went for a run today.
In town
on a paved trail.
Apparently summer decided to
make an appearance.
Cool….or not
It was 73 by the time
I got back to my car.
I started out great!
Made it to the half way point
in my 5K
and thought I
was.going.to.die!
I use a fanny pack for
my iPod and cell phone.
It was much bigger today
than I remember it being
during Bloomsday,
My hat just kept the heat in
so off it went
didn’t care how my hair looked
I was in survival mode.
I walked to rest of the way back to my car.
I learned a lot.
After 6 months of running
I thought I knew all there
was to know.
Oh well
There is always
Monday.
6.10.2010
still running
I took about 10 days off
5.18.2010
took a break

Bloomsday 2010
4.28.2010
Bloomsday is near

4.15.2010
I ran again
4.12.2010

There is a half at the end of May
